Instrument Technician

Primary Job Functions

  • Installation, maintenance, testing and calibration of temperature, pressure, flow, level and vibration transmitters
  • Maintenance, testing and calibration of various analyzers, including online field gas chromatographs (GCs)
  • Maintenance, testing and calibration of plant safety systems, including interlocks
  • Maintenance and testing of various brands of control valves
  • Perform basic DCS maintenance and configuration tasks, including working with DCS vendor to get required support
  • Recognize malfunctions in instrumentation equipment and troubleshoot / perform maintenance as necessary to correct problems
  • Work with the technical and operations team to evaluate new instrumentation technologies for future projects
  • Write repair work requests for routine and major maintenance that cannot be handled as part of normal operations using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software system
  • Oversee third-party maintenance contractor for instrumentation-related work

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience with plant instrumentation and GC systems required
  • Instrumentation Technology / Industrial Electronics (or equivalent) degree or certification preferred
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, equipment drawings, loop drawings, and piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) required
  • Previous exposure or experience in the refining/petrochemical/energy sector preferred
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software systems preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold
  • Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass relevant medical examinations associated with the use of PPE
  • Lift 50 pounds floor to waist
  • Push and pull 50 pounds horizontally
  • Carry 20 pounds while walking
  • Climb stairs and ladders
